Originally a thatcher by trade, the downturn in the economy forced a career change for Donagh Quigley who embarked on a road trip across Australia in 2009 with his fiancee Gemma McGowan. While travelling the outback they came across a vibrant cottage industry making and selling delightful handmade soaps. Donagh had always suffered from psoriasis and could never find a soap or cleanser to suit his skin, until then! The idea struck that people back home in Ireland could benefit from using these natural products and so ‘The Handmade Soap Company’ was born! Over the past two years, the Kells based company is quickly becoming an industry leader, winning numerous awards for its innovative skincare range and being selected as part of the prestigious ‘Creative Island’ collection as Showcase 2011.
