The Galway Races Summer Festival 2012 would be incomplete without the 5 star g Hotel’s Best Hat Competition that takes place in the hotel the evening of Ladies Day, Thursday 2nd August, where the winner will walk away with a bespoke Philip Treacy creation inspired by pop sensation Lady Gaga plus 2 tickets to this year’s Lady Gaga concert in the O2., plus the 4 runners up each receive a bespoke g inspired head piece.
Master milliner Philip Treacy, who was also Design Director at the g hotel, has created a striking black and white swirl effect hat for the Best Hat competition at the g. The black and white vortex hand woven carpet, forming the centre piece in the g hotel’s signature pink lounge also forms part of the inspiration behind the headpiece, which boasts a timeless yet striking design.
For the first time a selection of the country’s leading milliners including; Mark T. Burke, Carol Kennelly, Edel Ramberg & Fiona Mangan have each created a once-off ‘g inspired’ headpiece, which will form part of the runner-up prizes at the g Hotel’s Ladies Day Best Hat competition.
A new edition to this years programme at the g for race week is the attendance of Ireland’s top female jump jockeys Nina Carberry & Katie Walsh who will be resident in the g for the week and where over 3 mornings – Thursday, Friday and Saturday (2nd -4th August), both ladies will be hosting a breakfast question and answer session, discussing the days racing ahead, plus chat about the highs and lows of their careers to date – not to be missed!
